Project Background: 

North American vehicle manufacturers faced significant challenges with traditional battery cables due to their lack of flexibility, which led to worker fatigue, injuries, and production delays. The rigidity of these cables also caused strain at connection points, resulting in frequent connector failures and compromised battery system reliability. Initial attempts to use more flexible EPDM cables introduced new issues, such as stripping and termination inconsistencies, making them less reliable for high-voltage applications. 

Champlain Cable developed the EXRAD® ERGOFLEX, a next-generation 150°C XLPO high-voltage battery cable, to address these challenges. This innovative cable offers superior flexibility, robust thermal characteristics, and consistent stripping performance without the need for a paper separator. The introduction of EXRAD® ERGOFLEX led to significant improvements, including reduced worker injuries and virtually eliminating connector pull-out issues. Approved by multiple vehicle OEMs, it delivered enhanced flexibility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, marking a significant advancement over previous solutions.
